The area close to The Old Black Dog is ideal for walkers, with many inland and coastal footpaths, including access to the South West Coastal Path. The village of Uplyme has a friendly local pub called the Talbot Arms offering a range of beers and food. Lyme Regis has a dinosaur museum in addition to the renowned Lyme Regis Museum (aka The Philpott Museum) which is built on the site of the home of the famous paleontologist, Mary Anning, who is buried in the churchyard of St Michael the Archangel, overlooking Lyme Bay, on part of the UNESCO World Heritage site on the Jurassic coast. Fossil hunting is always good fun and to help those who are not geologists there are fossil walks available to suit all ages. The town of Lyme Regis, a 15 minute walk away, offers an eclectic range of shops, restaurants, a working Mill and historic buildings.
